Total Laparoscopic Hysterectomy (TLH) is a minimally invasive surgical procedure used to remove the uterus through small incisions in the abdomen using laparoscopic techniques. Unlike traditional open surgery, TLH offers quicker recovery, less pain, and minimal scarring. In some cases, the cervix, fallopian tubes, and ovaries may also be removed, depending on the patient’s condition and medical necessity.
TLH is recommended for treating a variety of gynecological conditions, such as:
Uterine fibroids
Endometriosis
Abnormal uterine bleeding
Chronic pelvic pain
Adenomyosis
Gynecological cancers (in select cases)
Prolapsed uterus
Minimally invasive with smaller incisions
Reduced blood loss and postoperative pain
Shorter hospital stay (typically 1-2 days)
Faster recovery time
Lower risk of infection
Minimal visible scarring
Faster return to normal daily activities
Anesthesia: General anesthesia is administered.
Incisions: 3-4 small incisions (0.5 to 1 cm) are made in the abdomen.
Laparoscope Insertion: A laparoscope (a thin tube with a camera) is inserted to visualize the uterus and surrounding organs.
Uterus Removal: The uterus is detached and removed either vaginally or in pieces through the small incisions.
Closure: The incisions are closed with sutures or surgical glue.
